Troubled Relationships:  How Can Jesus Help? Part Three:  Managing Misunderstandings

At the root of many relationship difficulties are misunderstandings.   What does the life of Jesus teach us about them?  Certainly Jesus never misunderstood people.  But many people misunderstood Jesus. This video looks at three times in the life of Peter when he misunderstood Jesus’s behavior:—  when he, terrified,  was in the storm on Lake Galilee and Jesus intended to pass by the boat;—  when he was in Caesarea Philippi and Peter ordered Jesus to not go to Jerusalem,  causing Jesus to rebuke this disciple;—  when, on the night of Jesus’s trial,  Peter was caught in the government’s courtyard denying Jesus three times, and then weeping bitterly. In each situation, Peter did not look at what was going on from Jesus’s point of view.   Instead, Peter evaluated the situation using only his mind, and his human perspective.   IF he had used Jesus’ point of view, IF he had had the things of God on his mind, he might not have felt so misunderstood.

In my personal life, I have felt misunderstood when I have been passed over, when I have been accused, and when my shame and inner flaws have been exposed.   What this lesson teaches me is  to remember to bring each and every problem to Jesus because HE DOES NOT MISUNDERSTAND ME.   In Him there are light and truth.  I can trust in Him, instead of leaning on my own understanding.

Blessings,
